This charming Victorian , Egyptian Revival pin dates to circa the 1880s. It is composed of a three natural scarab beetles mounted on 15 carat gold.

The scarab beetle has been a symbolic motif in Egyptian jewellery for thousands of years. The scarab is a symbol of regeneration and rebirth, thus scarab jewellery was thought to bring protection, luck and vitality to the wearer.

Egyptian soldiers were given scarabs before going into battle. Women were given scarabs for fertility

The three scarabs are securely prong set.

On the reverse you can see the back of the insect. There is an old style c clip.

This most attractive and quite rare pin is in excellent antique condition. Just imagine it pinned to your jacket lapel.

Laden with symbolism, it would make a wonderful gift too.
