This stunning Victorian Amethyst 9 carat Gold riviere is circa 1800. The riviere, or "rivers of light" is a simple, elegant design where stones are set one following the other joined with a simple ring.

Amethysts at this time were considered rare and prized by the royals and the aristocracy.

The Amethysts are beatutifully faceted and are all collet set within a crimped gold settings.

To the reverse these stunning Amethysts are set in open backed settings, this allows the light to shine through and enhances the colour of the stones displaying a myriad of purple, lilac and mauves.

The Amethysts have a rich hue and variation of color so beautiful and distinctive.
 
The necklace is light and the Old Rose Gold work is superb.

Excellant original condition, all the stones are cut nice and deep.

There are a total of 22 Amethysts each wieghing 0.50, totalling 11 carats.

The center stone measures widht/height 15mm x 20mm and is a very impressive weight of 20 carats.

The hand crafted fancy link chain measures 13 inches long and retains a secure original clasp.

The total length of the necklace measures 19 inches.

Total weight is 18.7 grams.

The Amethyst is known as the Bishop's Stone and is still worn by Catholic Bishops.
