Description

This Edwardian ring is made in buttery yellow 18 carat Gold and set with seven bright white sparkling old mine hand cut Diamonds.

The old mine hand cut Diamonds, weighing 0.50 carats, are set in a Daisy cluster and sparkles wonderfully in the light.

The style of stone setting which is low, burnished, with a starburst frame is called gypsy star setting.

The anecdote that explains how this name came to be is almost certainly apocryphal and goes like this:

A century and a half ago, wealthy women were loath to travel through the countryside while wearing their piles of jewellery for fear gypsies would come along and snatch stones right from their settings.

A clever lady asked her jeweler to set her gems deep down in the ring, with no prongs, so it was flush with the metal and therefore thief-proof and the "gypsy setting" was invented.

The condition of this delightful, Circa 1910, antique ring is lovely for its considerable age.
