These fabulous Mid-Victorian era (1856 to 1880) was truly a time rich with imagery.

Much of Victorian jewellery was made through mediums like enamel, micro mosaic, and cameo; all of which have strong tendencies toward representational images.

The scarab beetle was a popular symbol of the Victorian stylistic movement known as Egyptian Revival: the celebration of styles and symbols from ancient Egypt.

Scarabs represent the cycle and vitality of life.

Offering an intriguing and unusual pair of Victorian earrings. The subject is a beetle made with tiles of vivid iridescent colours of glass. These tiles, also known as tesserae, are hand set into the image of a scarab beetle, one to each earring.

The earrings are not marked but the metal tests at 9 carat Gold.

The colours chosen to represent the scarabs are brown, green and iridescent coppery red Gold. The background tiles are white and small triangles of blue running alongside the white border.

The overall condition of the earrings is excellent.

There is no damage in the mosaic design which captivates the beauty of the earrings.

It is very difficult to find Victorian micro-mosaic scarab earrings.

These are a fabulous, well designed pair of earrings.

Terminating in a peg with a secure butterfly fastening.

These stylish earrings weigh 9.6 grams and the overall design is 40mm x 10mm.
