Description

This adorable antique Edwardian locket is crafted in 9 carat Gold. Both faces of the locket are delicately engraved with the forms of forget me not flowers and ivy.

The tiny blue forget-me-not flowers were popular motifs for Edwardian jewellers, particularly within lockets, which were built to contain a picture of a loved one.

Forget-me-not flowers were symbolic of remembrance and ivy was a symbol of fidelity.

The locket opens to reveal two compartments for loved one's photographs.

Finely handcrafted in 9 carat Gold "back and front".

The locket dates to Circa 1910.

In the late Victorian and Edwardian period, lockets were manufactured with solid Gold fronts and solid Gold backs. The metal at the front is a sheet of solid Gold and the metal at the back is also a sheet of solid Gold.

Using this method allowed heavy engraving which would not be possible on rolled Gold or Gold plating.

The sides, hinges and sometimes the loose frames inside are usually made of a sturdy base metal that has been Gold plated.

The overall finish of the ring is wonderful. Everything is smooth to the touch.
